ACCIDENTS TO CHILDREN.

FATAL SNAKE-BITE.

BENDIGO, Sunday.

A serious burning accident happened to a little girl six years of age, named Ruby Varker, who resides with her parents in Victoria street, Ironbark. She was playing near a fire in an outhouse when her clothes became ignited, and she was quickly en0 veloped in flames. She ran round the yard, and her cries attracted the attention of her

father and mother, who succeeded in ex-tinguishing them. The skin on the right arm and the right leg was hanging in strips,

while grave injuries were sustained to the lower part of the abdomen. The child is not expected to recover.

A girl 13 years of age, daughter of Mrs. James Ryan, farmer, of Fosterville, was bitten by a snake on Friday, and succumbed during the evening.

ECHUCA, Sunday.

A child named, Lily McLaren, daughter of Mr. John McLaren, of the firm of-Messrs.

McLoughlin and McLaren, butchers, was the victim of a burning accident last evening, which, but for the prompt action of Miss Bell, the daughter of a neighbour, would have ended seriously. She was left play0 ing, whilst her mother went shopping after tea. She found some matches, and lit a quantity of paper in the yard, her clothes catching fire. Miss Bell jumped the dividing fence, and, taking off her skirt, rolled it round the child, who thereby only had her arms and shoulders burned.
