FATAL SNAKE-BITE.
DUMBALK, Wednesday.
A case of snake-bite, which has since proved fatal, occurred on Monday. The four-year-old daughter of Mr. E. Holmes,
while playing in the garden near the house, was bitten by a tiger snake on the foot.
The mother instantly applied a ligature, sucked the wound, and sent for the father,
who was working at some distance from the house. Mr. Holmes injected chloride of lime, and then sought medical assist-ance. All recognised methods of treatment were followed, and the child seemed to be recovering, but suffered a relapse, and died this morning. The snake was killed about
an hour after the occurrence. Snakes are very numerous this year, and it is proposed
to obtain a chloride of lime injection appa-ratus and place it in the local hall.
