PRE-SELECTION BITTERNESS

MELBOURNE, Tuesday.

Great disorder prevailed when the result of the Labour pre-selection for the Richmond Assembly seat was announced. Mr. Cotter, M.L.A., defeated) the Mayor of Richmond (Councillor Cremean) by 747 votes to 594. Mr. Cotter described it as one of the

"dirtiest" elections he had ever fought. People, he declared, had not only pried into his political life, but into his private and business af-fairs trying to discover something to damage his candidature.
