EVACUATION OF CORFU

DETAILS OF CEREMONY. Corfu, Sept. 27.

The evacuation of Corfu was completed this morning; the Ital-ian flag was hauled down ; and the island was handed over to the Greeks. The town was in perfect order under the resumed civil ad-ministration and no threats had

been made against Italian citizens, and hence the population was sur-prised this afternoon to see four Italian Dreadnoughts and seven destroyers reappear from behind the island of Vido and anchor before the town- The cause of their reappearance is unknown. — (Reu-ter). The apprehensions of the popula-tion were dispelled when the eva-cuation began. The Italian flag was lowered amid salutes from the Italian fleet and a Greek destroyer. The Italian flagship saluted the Greek flag when it was hoisted. Forty thousand of the people wel-comed the Governor when he land-ed, and carried him to the prefec-ture. British and French flags were waved by the crowd which demon-strated in front, of the British and French Consulates.— (Reuter)
