CHRISTMAS TOYS. It is still somewhat of a far cry to Christmas. All the saine those vendors of toys who have to place their orders with the English and Europeai firms do so many mionths in advance. One of our largest importers a day or two since afforded me an opportunity of inspecting his samples. It was interesting to note that the majority of these were on a scientific basis. There were miniature aeroplanes, sub-marines, phonographs, 'and even a monoplane railway. According to the head of that firm the old simple toys in which our youngsters used to takesuch great delight are going more and more out of fashion except with the very youngest children. Others of a "larger growth" must have the real locomotive or an aeroplane that will go up in the air. Then again little girls demand that their dolls shall both walk and talk. The old-fashioned soueak "Mama," continued my importing friend, is not now nearly sufficient. All this of course means greatly increased expense to the heads of families and other givers of Christ mas gifts.
