OBITUA RY. --e -The death occurred on Tuesday night, at his residence, Rosebrook, of Mr Thomas Goodwin, a very old and highly-respected resident of the district. Deceased was 81 years of age, and cause of death was senile decay. He leaves a grown up family of sons and daughters. The funeral takes place this after noon. The somewhat sudden death of Mrs D. Sproal, of Regent-street, Port Fairy, occurred last evening, and the very sad event has oc casioned much sympathy for the bereaved husband and young family. The deceased lady was 36 years of age, and a daughter of Mr and Mrs Wm. Chamberlain, of Gipps-street. Three medical men had the case in hand. It was one that was prac tically hopless, and on Tuesday an operation was performed, which revealed absolute intestinal obstru ction. The patient never rallied, and died as before stated. Miss Iila Kirby, aged 22, died at Mt. Koroite, Coleraine, on Satur day last. She had only been ill a few days. Mr Corrick, father of the well known and talented family of Corricks, died in Tasmania last week. Mrs T Brown, daughter of Mr John Brown, Codrington, and wife of ir Thos. Brown, Yambuk, died in the local hospital on Sun day evening. She leaves a young family, the eldest being 14 and the youngest 10 months. The funeral took place to the Yambuk cemetery on Tuesday. Mr John Homrne, aged 89, an old resident of Terang, died on Monday. Mrs George Patterson, aged 83, died at Koroit yesterday. Mr Wm. Mott, after landing a 'couta on Tuesday, was swinging the line when the hook struck his nose and penetrated it from side to side. Dr Orchard attended to the injury. A Royal commission to Investigate the housing conditions of the people of Mel bourne is to be appointed, . with Mr R. Solly, M.IJ.A.. as chairman. The Minister of Defence, Senator Millen, has decided that the old rifles whibh have been discarded by the depart> ment may be sold to rifle clubs in bulk, the price being fixed at £2 a rifle. A case of diphtheria occurred amongst the naval reserves on the Pioneer at Port Melbourne, the patient being removed to the Fairfield hospital. In connection with the Henty celebra tions in Portland on the 30th, the steamer Eumerella will leave Warrnam bool and Port Fairy on the evening of Wednesday, April 29, and return from Portland the next evening. At a meeting of the Coleraine Presbv terian Church committee it was men tioned that since the discontinuance of the church announcements in the local paper, residents in the outside districts were confused in their minds as to when church services were to be held in their respective localities, and that the attend ance was thereby affected. Notice of motion was given that the resolutions bearing on this matter be rescinded with a view to restoring the announcements in the "Albion," it beinig learned that the cost would. be small. In Port Fairy church notices have been inserted gratis. The Coleraine agricultural so ciety is a progressive institution. It proposes sending an exhibit to the royal show, and asks all growers within 30 miles of the town to lend any kind of produce for the purpose. The exhibit can not fail to prove a. splendid adver tisement for the district. Why cannot Port Fairy follow this worthy move ? The Rev Mr Nairn; of Koroit, will conduct the morning and even ing services at St. Andrewv's Pres byterian church on Sunday next. A special train, with a cousign ment-of 9 trucks of condensed milk; from Nestles factory, Den nington, for shipment per s.s. Casino, arrived at the local rail way station on Wednesday after n1DOonsr
