The death is announced of the Earl of Rosse, in his 68th year (Laurence Parsons, Earl of Rosse, a Representative Peer for Ireland, son of the 3rd Earl, who was Presi- ! dent of the Royal Society, and built ! the famous telescope at Birr, and of Mary, daughter of John Wilnier

D.C.L. Oxford, 1870; was Chancellor of Dublin University; Lord-Lieutenant since 1892; Gustos Rotuloruin, and J.P. for King's County; High Sheriff, 1867; a J.P. j for co. Tipperary, and one of the! Senate of the Royal Univeristy .of i Ireland. He was the author of j various scientific papers in the '?'Philosophical Transactions/' and in the ''Proceedings of the Royal Society.' London: the Royal Dub-! lin ' Society, of which he was elect- j ed President in March, 1887 ; the '. Reports of the British Association .' (Montreal meeting) : and in the !
