The Hon. The Socialist candidate, Mr. Burrows, who polled only 95*7 votes to the 2867 recorded for Sir. Guinness, and the 1724 given to the Liberal candidate, ,was assisted in his canvass by over 2000 Socialist Democrats. (The Hon. Rupert Guinness is eldest son of Lord Iveagb, and is a I young man of 38. He is a member of the London County Council ? for Haggerston. lie was educated at ! Eton, where he distinguished him- j self in 1S92 by winning the Schools' j Sculls. He rowed in 1893 in the j Eton eight, which won tne Lady's j Plate at Henley. As a member of j the Leander Club he worn the Dia- j mond Sculls at Henley in 1895, and i again . in 1896. In the latter year he also carried off the Wingneld Sculls, thus talcing the championship of the Thames. During the South African war he served with j the Irish Hospital Corps.)
