MORRIS' SUMM^B GARDENS.

'ROBBERY UNDER ARMS.;'

'Stageland.'' speaking of Mr. i Charles MacMahon's series of Aus- j tralian pictures, 'Robbery Under , Arms,' which will commence a season at Morris' Summer Gardens j this evening, says :— ''Never has such a series of lifelike Australian pictures-been taken, and the story. of Rolf Boldrewood's famous book had I been put on record in a manner that j

does infinite credit first to the man who organised the whole affair, second to the magnificent skill of the operator (Mr. C. Byers Coates, representing the well-known firm of Osborne & Jerdan), and third to the j company of actors and actresses who I so ably seconded the efforts of the first two factors to a grand success. It is the book rather than the accepted drama that is repro- I duced on the 5000 ft. of film by the ' skill of Mr. Coates and the splendid plant of Messrs. Osborne and Jertan ; and the pictures speak ; they require no interpreter even to the man. or .woman who has. neither read the book nor seen the play. , A i visit, to Osborne & Jerdan s Georgestreet establishment shows where the ! great reels of film were treated after J Mr. Coates had done his share. The '! basement was practically given over to this big job. Ten thousand feet of film, costins: £200, was used , for positive and negative, and after ! uie bath in the big troughs this had to be wound on scores of large ?

I skeleton reels to dry for 24 hours, j it is the largest and most expensive [ and ambitious undertaking bi the kind Known in Australia, and, bar j t-.xc clean fiim, it is all local indus: ? try.' ' The Sydney firm may well j be proud of their achievement. ?' ; i ? _j ? . ? i
