-u PRACTICAL CHRISTMAS. Since the Christmas number of the "Everylady's Journal"-that popular magazine for the women of Australia and New Zealand-is issued during the first week of December, the editor has an opportunity of advising his readers on the hundred and one problems that crop up' during the festive season. " Everyladv's Journal" advises that, this year, our Christmas should be marked by sober-mindedness and practical economy rather than by the usual merry-making and open-handeness. The reasons for this are too obvious to need repeating. In support of this advice the journal devotes many pages to practical hints in preparing Christmas fare, arranging entertainments, constructing the Christmas gifts in the home instead of buying them, and indulging in a period of home-dressmaking. Special Christmas stories, articles, and verses are contributed by Charles Nuttall, Dr Fitchett, Madame Melba, ;Miss Mary Card and others. Altogether this number of "Everylady's Journal"' may be regarded as exceptionally seasonable. The local bookseller will supply.
