A store kept by Mr. Davies was left yesterday while the owner went to the post-otfice, and on his return he found that a cashbox containing £16 had been stolen. Mr. Arthur Austin has been elected chairman of the municipality of Norseman, and Dr. Goode, Messrs. Crampton, Mattinson, Roberts, Frearson, and Martin town councillors. The new mail contractor arrived on a camel this morning. He has got half a ton of mails to take back to Norseman, and unless he can get a few more camels half of it will have to be left behind. Mail coaches .ire promised in a mouth's time and teams will then leave Norseman regularly.The The Bremer Mount Barker Reward claim at 117 ft. has struck a big flow of water. Mr. Walsh, of the Boulder, Norseman, is pushing on with the work on the main shaft and has three shifts engaged. No expense is being sparpd in developing the property. Kirkpatrick's Mount Bensou is getting rich stone and good results. Captain Carter says with a railway from Esperance the shares of this mine will be worth as many pounds as shillings at present. The Ciiniberland has got a fine reef showing good gold throughout. Rumors have been circulated that gold has been found in the vicinity of Pink Lake, six miles from Esperance, but doubt is attached to the truth of the statements. Esparance, April 27. At the Police Court this morning the charge against Thomas Falney of attempting to murder Captain Tate, of the mail packet MacGregor, was dismissed, but he was committed for trial for assaulting the captain with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm. Joseph Atkinson was committed for trial for attempting to drown the second mate and aiding and abetting Falney in the assault on the captain. The Customs returns for the week were £1,942 18s. 5d. For the month £4,073 16s. 8d. was received, and this exceeds that of any previous month. Last month's receipts were £2,'J59 4b. 5d. On Sunday evening the Rev. Burton Priest, in charge of the Anglican Missi oh, made an extraordinary sermon. He spoke in strong terms of the immorality and intemperance in the town. He considered that drunken men should be made to wheel barrows through the public streets and remove the superfluous sand in the sight of their friends. He characterised the gathering held on Wednesday in- connection with the railway to Norseman as a ' general drunken orgie,' and condemned the leading officials and residents of the town for taking part in it. He also announced that no more licenees should bo granted in the town. During the course of his remarks several outbursts of laughter took place. Prior to the commencement of the service seven telegraph operators occupied Beats, and Mr. Priest asked them to keep quiet and not talk.
