SURGEON THOS. JAMISON.

To the Editor of the Nepean Times.

Sir,— I thank Mr George R Nichols for his kindly criticism of the ''his- torical sketch' of ' Surgeon Thomas Jamison.' After all he does not find fault with much that I wrote— only putting in 1807 for 1809, a very small

lapse and easily made, when hur-riedly writing from notes. I thought perhaps he would correct the date of the fire at Regentville, which was 1859 and not 1861 as I said. My sin, however, is omission, but as I was only giving a ' sketch,' and not a biography, I confined myself princi-pally to the times which associated him with the locality of Penrith. Perhaps I was unhappy in my open-ing, and should have said returned to N.S. Wales in 1801. However, as Mr Nichols has supplied the earlier connection that the doctor had with the colony, it will remove the wrong impression. And now, I am glad I can give the information Mr Nichols asks for. Naval history of the period has amongst its obituary notices, this paragraph,—

January 25th (1811), in Upper     Berkeley Street, Portman Square, (London), after a lingering illness, Thomas Jamieson Esq., aged 58, late principal surgeon of the settle-ment at New South Wales, and father of Dr John Jamieson, one of the physicians of His Majesty's fleet. Yours, etc., JAMES H. WATSON. 27-1-1914.
