Perth's New Key Men: Lawn Reappointed

(By Harry Potter.)

An interesting link with local football of many years ago is created with the coming of J. Toohey to this State to join the Perth Club, for he is a son of the onetime crack of the 'fields and North Fremantle, Jim Toohey.

Toohey, senior, is a member of the committee of Fitzroy Club, with which the new Perth player has been associated. Toohey and J. Harbison should prove a welcome addition to the city team's ranks this season. Mr. W. Clowes, the president of the ciub, took the opportunity, while in Victoria, to engage the newcomers. He was mindful of the position with Perth last year, when its performances indicated that if one or two more key men had been available Perth would have entered the four. As it was their belated run almost achieved its objective. RUCK RELIEF

Toohey is only 21, is about 6ft. tall, and weighs 13£ stone. He played 12 matches with Fitzroy last year and has a good reputation. He should prove ?a. strong half-forward and useful change follower. Harbison weights 13 stone and is 6ft. lin. in height. He played with the Geelong and Richmond clubs before associating with Hawthorn for a brief period, and then ' transferred to Coburjr, the association team. He is 25 years old and should be a solid ruckman. Perth's only previous importations within memory were Max Jarvis, who so ably coached the side last year; Gordnn Headon, the halfTforward from South Australia, who stripped with Perth last season, and who has since returned to Adelaide, and Jim JCaldwell, who was brought frcm South Melbourne some years ago. East Fremantle's secretary (Mr. L. t nrnumi will KTibmit the usual in

teresting report when members of the club foregather at Victoria Hall on Monday night next for the annual meeting. The year has been marked by a neat example of budgeting. The side started the season with a credit balance of £8 19s 3d and finished with £ 9 7s 8 in hand. Income totalled £923 and expenditure £922. The Chief Secretary )(Mr. Kitson), who has acted as a vicepresident, is to succeed Mr. Chas Doig as president. He is unopposed for the position. Messrs. L. Cinoris (sitting) and C Christie will be the vice-presidents. 'While naturally disappointed that tl.,2 team was not successful in annexing the premiership, the committee,1 Mr. Brown states, 'realises that every player gave of his best, and wishes sincerely to thank the members of the team for their efforts.

The prospects for the coming season look bright All of last year's players should be available, with several country recruits and promising juniors from the club's district, the coming season's team should be quite up to the standard of other years.' Two good country players East Fremantle have acquired are Wendt, of Collie, and Williams, of Kalgoorlie, both big men. The trophy winners for 1936 are: R. Hutchinson (Lynn medal), C. Jarvis, R. McGlinn, G. Doig, K. Seubert, E. Martiensen, W. Truscott, V. Donegan, N. Doig, C. Doig, G. Skeahan, J. Munro, W. Kenny, W. James, R. Daniell, W. Fordham, W. Doig, J.

UX1QL U. LAWN RE-APPOINTED Dick Lawn, the former East Perth skipper, has been re-elected coach of the Claremont team. He filled the position last year, when Claremont, for the first time, qualified for the four. There has been no mention lately of Lawn's clearance, which, it will be recalled, was refused last year, preventing Lawn from acting as playing coach. Claremont will start training on March 17. Further applications are invited for the position of association team coach and trainers, these closing on March 15.
