COUNTRY RUN FOR COOLER DAYS t Northam, via The Lakes Turn-off

For the days when the weather is too cold to' visit the beaches, this run, through good country, should prove ideal for the week-end motorist. The route via the Lakes turn-off covers 122 miles a^id provides a variety of scenery.

At Midland Junction the Greenmountroad is taken, passing the Log Cabin Tearooms on the left. The stretch oi road from Midland is particularly good, being carefully graded aud providing -*asy climbing. At 15.9 miles the entrance to National Park gates is seen on the left, and a short distance : farther on the Darlington turn-off is seen tm the right. The Northam-bound motorist continues straight on. past the i-jm -rooms on the left at' the 18-mile mark. At 21.2 miles Mundaring is reached. The road to the right is to the weir, and should be avoided, continuing, straight on and passing under the railway bridge at 22 miles. One and a naif miles further on Sawyer's Valley is reached, the hotel . being on the right of the main road. To cheek up the route, watch for a store on the left at 25.7 miles. vTwo miles farther on are cross roads. The road to the left is to Northam, via Chidlow. The route to Norrham .~ia the Lakes turn-off is straight on. At 31.3 miles turn left. Straight on is to York. A little over two miles farther on Beechina is reached, with the siding on the left. At 34.8 miles, turn right. The left-hand turn-off is to Perth via Chidlow. Continue straight on from here, past Baker's Hill, until Clackline is reached. Here the left-hand turn is taken, across the railway tine, and then straight on ugain. At 60.9 miles from Perth turn right The road to the left is to Toodyay. A tenth of a mile farther on cross the Avon River bridge into Northam. The return journey may be made in the same manner, or by taking the route via Chidlow.
