Mayor Hipwood.

As a supplement to this issue of Figaro, I have pleasure in presenting my readers with a portrait of James Hipwood, Mayor of Brisbane. Mr. Hipwood is a native of Sydney, where he first saw daylight in the year 1842, and where also he received his school education, at St. Andrew's school. After serving as an apprentice, and subsequently, for 10 years, as foreman, in the firm of P. N. Russel & Co.,ironfounders and shipbuilders, of Sydney, he came to Brisbane in 1870, commenced business in Eagle-street as a brassfounder and coppersmith, an occupation he is still engaged in. In 1884 was elected alderman for the North Ward of Brisbane, and in February of this year was chosen mayor of the city.

Mayor Hipwood is the right man in the right

place.
