Secretary, Son Die

Victims Mr. Douglas Engler, of Westbury-cres., Bicton, and his 13-year-old son John were on their way to Melbourne and were to have returned overland by bus.

Mr. Engler was secretary of the Pioneer Omnibus Company, Cottesloe.He, He, with Mr. R. Stevens, of Brighton-st., Cottesloe, was to have driven a new bus overland from Melbourne to Perth for use by his company. Mr. Stevens left Perth by air on Sunday night. Mr. Engler had taken his son to accompany him on what should have proved a novel journey— one way by air, the other by bus. For a long period Mr. Engler was employed by the legal arm of Hardwick, Slattery and Gibson, at Fremantle. He enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy in 1940, rose to commissioned rank.He He left a widow and a daughter.
