FREMANTLE SQUARES

Fence Removals Suggested

A proposal to remove the fences from two of the four queen squares at the corner of Parry and High streets, Fremantle, came before the Fremantle City Council last night. For some years the gates of the squares have been locked at sunset.

The proposal was submitted by the parks and ovals committee, and the chairman (Cr. Rennie) pointed out that it was suggested that the fences surrounding the two western parts should be removed altogether. The fences were becoming dilapidated, and to replace them would be very costly. It was not intended to remove the fence from the square reserved for chilren, as this would be too dangerous. There was considerable opposition to the proposition, and after a discussion the matter was referred back to the committee for further consideration.
