AUSTRALIAN FILMS

'The Term' to be Made in Sound

Believing the time ripe for the development of the Australian filmproducing industry along economical lines, CInesound Productions Limited proposes to proceed immediately with the production of from four to six features annually, creating where possible a purely Australian atmosphere (says 'Every-one's').

Arrangements have already been made by which Cinesound product will be released in England, and by which they will be accepted as quota pictures within the 'requirements of the British film quota. Cinesound Productions Ltd. recently registered on a capital of £50,000, has studios-, at Bond!. Sydney, and St. Kilda, Melbourne. It will use the plant and equipment formerly used by Australasian .Films — an Australian invention, perfected in the Cinesound laborar tofies, and considered equal to the best for clarity of voice and economy in operation. FEATURE PRODUCTIONS Feature productions to be started by the company in the near future willprobably be adapted from 'Con of . the Coral Seas,' by Margaret Grimshaw; Marcus Clarke's 'For the Term of His Natural Life'; 'The Pioneers,' a story of early settlement hi Australia; and 'Tall Timbers,' a story woven around the timber industry.. It is likely that a sequel tp_ 'On . Our ; Selection,'-!... which Is now ready for release, will shortly be placed in production in association with Bert Bailey.- -?? ? Meanwhile Cinesound Productions Ltd. will continue production of the Cinesound Review, which is not only shown throughout Australia, but is included in the British Pathe News, is translated into French and German, and released on the Continent, and Is incorporated In America in the Universal. News by 'ar-rangement with Pathe News. London and Universal of America. The Cinesound Review is also distributed in New Zealand; and arrangements will shortly be made to open releasing channels in South Africa and Canada. NEWSREELS In addition to its feature and newsreel, work, the. company, will proceed with the production of Captain Frank Hurley's 'Artmaster' series, following ,the success of 'Jewel of the Pacific' and 'Symphony in Steel.' in future, however. Captain Hurley's films will be made of feature length. A well-known travel and production story is now under consideration as a vehicle; while at present 'The Land of Mystery/1- a film devoted to the mysr teries of Papua, is in the making. Pictures produced by Cinesound Productions Ltd. are assured of release over the Greater Union Theatres' circuit, and distribution by British Empire Films Ltd., the company formed only last week. Ken Hall, who directed 'On Our Selection,' has been appointed general manager of the Cinesound organisation.
