Trains Go Round Swan View Tunnel

NORTHAM, Mon — No longer do train passengers bound for stations east, of Swan View tunnel await a warning whistle and then hurriedly close all windows. No longer do trains on this line have to be halved at Midland Junction. . . . Reason is that the Swan View deviation is now in operation. Work on the deviation was started 17

months ago and has taken eight months longer than was expected. 'Double - loaded' trains, which were banned by the loeo drivers' union from running through the tunnel on the upward trip, are now being . used again, saving time. Garratt engines, also banned by the union f;iom the upward run through the tunnel, are also in use on this section.
