"DOWN UNDER"

WESTERN AUSTRALIAN FILM A PRIVATE SCREENING

In the presence, of his Excellency, the Governor (Sir William Campion) and Lady Campion, and by courtesy of Sir Thomas Coombe in co-operation with Mr. Hamilton Brown, the film story "Down Under'' was projected at the Prince of Wales Theatre yesterday morning. The

large company present comprised share-holders of Anglo-Australian Films, Limit-ed, members of the film trade, the press, and several guests. Mr. Harry Southwell will no doubt score largely with this first Western Aus-tralian picture because of its unusual emo-tional appeal and his portrayal of Walter Nabbage, who is the main character of the story. The production opens with the Premier (Mr. Collier) being pressed by his secre-tary, Mr. Shapcott, to read a sweet story. On being told that it is a typically West-ern Australian, he settles down to read and the narrative then fades in. Hearty and spontaneous applause greet-ed the conclusion of the picture and there were some obviously moved by the story.

Mr. Harry Southwell was splendidly sup-ported by the other artists in the cast. Mr. Southwell's manager (Mr. Weir) stated that with all previous difficulties in the way of production now smoothed away the company was in a position to make perfect pictures, and following the arriv-al of this picture in England there would probably be a move on the part of Mr. Southwell, and the directors of the com-pany, to make a picture that would appeal to every man and woman in Western Aus-tralia.
