RELIGIOUS ORDER

Jack Regan Retires

Jack Regan, one of the most noted footballers in the Victorian game, has announced his retirement, and will join the Salesian community at Sunbury as a lay brother.

Regan, who made his name in the Collingwood and Victorian teams as a full back, has been playing senior football since 1939 with conspicuous success. In a letter to the Collingwood committee, which met last night, he said that he was enter-ing religious life after a great deal of thought, and would go to Sunbury some time in February. He might not have an opportunity of meeting the committee and his team mates before his departure, and asked that his sincere thanks be conveyed to all for 12 years of the most enjoyable times in his life.

"I have tried to do my best for the club in that time," he wrote, "and, while I have regrets in sever-ing my connection with football. I feel that I am doing something much better,"
