UAP MEMBER LEAVES
PARTY ROOM
By walking out of the State UAP meeting and later removing his papers and other personal effects to the Independents room at Parliament House Maj T K Maltby MLA Barwon added fresh interest to the UAP dispute yesterday
No comment was made later either by Maj Maltby or by other UAP members but it is believed Maj
Maltby action is linked with his attitude last week in a dissociating himself from the party a resolution rejecting offers of a separate meeting with the United Australia Organisation He said then he believed the organisation should confer Im-mediately to settle its differences Maj Maltby continued to sit on the Opposition cross benches last night and has not renounced UAP membership
Mr Hollway UAP leader said last night no fresh moves had been planned at yesterday's party meeting
Members discussed the possibility of re-forming the manservantstation on the lines of the AWNL
In reply to the Parliamentary UCPs request for an immediate meeting with central council the council has stated that a suitable occasion would be its new ordinary meeting in February The Parliamentarians who wished to discuss the attitude of central council and the official organ the Countryman to the Parliamentary party and Government have not yet decided whether this offer suits ahern
DRASTIC OVERHAUL URGED
Addressing a meeting of Brighton Beach AWNL branch last night Mr Holt MP said recent happenings In the UAP in Victoria indicated there would have to be a drastic overhaul of the organisation The Victorian position was liable to lead to something of the same sort in the Federal party They would have to pull together as a political fighting force One of the basic reasons for dissatisfaction was that the party had been in office so long that it had neglected its political organisation Rather than take precipitate action State and Federal parties should exchange ideas and there was a good prospect that early in the new year they would again be a united force
