LOCAL GOVERNMENT ENGINEERS ADMONISHED

ADVICE ON CORRECT ATTIRE.

Local Government engineers were admonished at their annual dinner on Monday night for not wearing evening dress.

Alderman Nolan said he was serious in suggesting that the engineers get into "glad rags" if they wished to improve their status. "After all," he added, "clothes have a wonderful influence on people. "I went so far as to suggest that as Mayor of Manly I should make myself a little more ornamental." A voice: Why not a little lipstick? Alderman Nolan: I don't think that would improve me.'

CASCADE OF FOAMING LACE. He then told his audience that he had had a "cascade of foaming lace" sewn at the neck of his mayoral robes. "And, believe mc, I looked fine in this magnificent cluster of lace. "I am serious when I advise you to attend these functions in evening dress." A voice: Whacko!
