TONGUE-TWISTER CHANGES NAME ,

BRISBANE, December 19

A tongue-twisting northern local authority has been rechristened, and glven a more euphonious name.

Woothakata Shire in future will be known as Mareeba Shire.

But the Local Government Minister (Mr. Power)> said last night that dif-ficulty of pronunciation was not the only reason for the change. The orig-inal Woothakata shire, comprising portions of the present area, had been greatly increased by the inclusion of Barron, Walsh, and Chillagoe shires.

In addition, Mareeba was the largest town in the shire, and was where the council had its offices.
