THE LATE MR. MICHAEL MULCAHY

Mr. Michael Mulcahy, owner of the National Hotel, Fremantle, passed away suddenly on the 24th inst. in his 55th year. The deceased gentleman, who was born at Tipperary, Ireland, arrived in Queensland 32 years ago,

where he followed pastoral pursuits and later was interested in the hotel business in that State. In 1892 he came to Western Australia, and with success went prospecting on our various goldfields. Later, with his brother, Mr. Daniel Mulcahy, he acquired numerous hotel properties, and also a large pastoral proposition. The late Mr. Mulcahy was a prominent figure in sporting circles. He was a life member and one of the founders of the Celtic Club, Perth, and a member of the W.A. Turf Club. The deceased gentleman was well and favorably known by all branches of the community. A widow and a family of three sons and five daughters survive him. The two eldest children (Lucy and Daniel) are now being educated in Victoria. St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Fremantle, was crowded yesterday morning, when a Requiem Mass was celebrated. The long funeral cortege moved from the church in the afternoon at 2.30 o'clock, and proceeded per road to the Karrakatta Cemetery, where the remains were interred in the family grave. The Rev. Father J. O'Neill, assisted by the Rev. Father J Callan, O.M.I., officiated at the graveside. Other priests present were: — Very Rev. Father D. J. Clune), Archdeacon Smythe, and Fa-thers Flynn, Neville, Haynes, and Quinlivan, O.M.I.'s, More-Hallinan, MacBride, T. and J. O'Grady, Patrick and Phil. Sheridan, Crowley, Doocey. and P. Masterson. The chief mourners were Mrs. M. Mulcahy (wife), Masters Michael and Hugh Mulcahy (sons), Nellie, Maggie, and Mary Mulcahy (daughters), Messrs. Daniel, Thomas, John, and James Mulcahy (brothers), Mrs. Corcoran (sister), Messrs. T. and M. Cranley and M. Byrne (bro-thers-in-law), Mrs. D. Mulcahy (sister--in-law), Masters Daniel and Hugh Mulcahy (nephews), the Misses Mary and Lucy Mulcahy and Lucy and Mary Byrne (nieces), Mr. and Mrs. J. Keane, sen., and Messrs. P. and C. Keane (cousins). The pall bearers were Mr. T. M. Quinlan W.A. Turf Club), Mr. J. Monaghan (president Licensed Victual-lers' Association, Fremantle), Cr. B. T. Daly (executive Irish National For-esters), and Messrs. T. G. A. Molloy, E. Kealy, J. Keane, L. Porritt, and P. O'Connor. The coffin-bearers were the employees of the National Hotel, Fre-mantle, viz., Messrs. J. Ryan (manager), P. Murray, P. O'Keefe, R. Mahon, W. Molloy, and T. Huntley. Amongst those present were Messrs. J. J. Lloyd (Deputy-Postmaster-General), President, representing the Celtic Club; E. Keary (Tattersall's Club), H. A. Stevenson, and A. Watson (W.A. Turf Club committee), T. Garvey (Trainers' Association), W. Jones

(President Perth Licensed Victuallers' Association), Walsh (secretary Bar-men's and Barmaids' Union), E. J. Tweedall Secretary Hotel and Res-taurant Employees' Union), A. G. Leeds (Dalgety and Co.. Ltd.), A. L. Abbott (C. H. Fielding, Ltd.), C. B Heazlewood (Burns, Philp. and Co), Welshman (Swan Brewery), G. Bone (Castlemaine Brewery), and numerous representatives of all sections of the community. There were no flowers by special request, but a large number of letters telegrams, and cards, etc., of condolence have been received by the bereaved relatives. The funeral arrangements were in the hands of Messrs. Arthur E Davies and Co., of Fremantle and Claremont.
