Planes on Alert for Carlins

NEW YORK, Tues (AAP): All crews of Pan-American Airways planes flying between New York and the Azores have been alerted to watch for the amphibious jeep in which Major Ben Carlin, of Perth, and his American

wife are trying to voy-age round the world. According to Carlin's schedule, the jeep should now be about 250 miles from the Azores Nothing has been heard of the jeep since August 9 — two days after it left New York — when it was sighted by a U.S. destroy-er about 200 miles out in the Atlantic. • Before their present attempt the Carlins had turned back three times because of mechanical

troubles. Coastguard pilots dubbed Carlin 'In again, out again Finne-gan.' Carlin, now 35, has had an adventurous car-eer in many countries. He practically rebuilt his jeep for his round - the iworld honeymoon pro-ject.
