High Death Roll In Earthquakes

NEW DELHI, June 20

(A.A.P.-Reuter). — More than 20,000 people are thought to have died in earthquakes which rocked Afghanistan last week, according to Kabul

radio.

The broadcast said casualty reports were still incomplete because of dislocated communi- cations.

Several villages in the Kun- har River Valley were wiped out by thousands of tons of debris. Tremors cascaded rocks and debris on to hamlets from mountain slopes.

More than 140 people were killed and about 900 injured when the Kunhar River burst its banks, flooding a large area of the country.
