FLOODS FOLLOW EUROPEAN THAW

LONDON, March 4 (A.A.P.-Reuter). — Widespread floods in South Germany, particu-larly along the Danube, and floods and avalanches in Aus-tria, were reported today as Europe thawed.

Warm, almost summery weather in London sent record numbers of motorists on to roads to the coast. France and Italy also basked in spring sunshine.

But in Western Germany, American troops helped more than 1800 people rescue their belongings from more than 400 houses flooded by the swollen Danube at Passau.

In Upper Austria people and livestock were evacuated from flooded homes and farms at four villages near Linz.
