Further exceptionally heavy rains have been received ! during the week in the pastoral areas of this State. Port Hedland has registered another seven inches, making a total rainfall of 17 inches in a fortnight.

Nearly seven inches was registered at Menzies, and more than five inches fell at Cue and Meekatharra. These' good rains in the pastoral areas should be of great value. In the South-West there ! has been no appreciable change in the seasonal outlook. Rains in the eastern sub-tropics were heavy at all stations except, those on the far eastern fringe of the wheatbelt. Many places in the south-eastern division recorded more than three inches. Heaviest sub-tropical falls were Menzies, 680- points; Rawlinna 492; ; Yundamindera 490; Lawlers 480; Leo- j nora 457; Kookynie 438; Mt. Malcolm 432. In the Gascoyne divisions the rain was scattered but the East Gascoyne fared well. Cue registered 532 points and Meekatharra 519. . HEAVY IN TROPICS Since the rains which caused the flooding of the Gascoyne River, Carnarvon has experienced fine weather. In the tropics the rain was particularly heavy. Best falls included Port Hedland 702 points; Whim Creek 480; Wyndham 359. Rains were caused by a system of tropical depressions which extended across the Kimberleys and later penetrated south. There was no rain in Perth. Because of the large amount of cloud, daily temperatures have been below normal except in the West Gascoyne and on the south-west coast. Temperature readings ranged from lOldeg. at Winning Pool to 48deg. at Donny brook. Marble Bar registered A century yesterday for the first time since January 21.
