Mice Nibble His Fingernails

KALGOORLIE, Frl — Nearly every night he was awakened by mice nibbling at his fingernails, said a visitor to Kalgoorlie from Linden.

They had also eaten buttons off most of his garments and the 1'-ous-ers he was wearing were well perforated as a result of their depredations. .. -The invasion of mice (whlcn recently made its appearance along the Trans-line) has apparently turned northward. Mr T. N. Lowe, of Mount Remarkable Station, Yundamindera, reports that his property has been overrun by the pests and it is a full-time job keeping wells clear of them. All station owners in the district were suffering from the pest, he indicated. So numerous were the mice, said Mr Lowe, that it was necessary to clear the wells every day. Each morning the surface of the water is covered to a depth of about six inches with dead and dying mice. From one well, neglected for four days, 16 five-gallon drums of mice were removed. Not only are the rodents polluting the water with their dead bodies, but they are creating a lot of trouble by scratching the earth from behind the timbering causing the wells to silt up. '
