Charred typewriters dropped through a burned-out first floor in a Fremantle building today as firemen fought the flames. ^

One room of the Adelaide Steamship Co. Ltd.'s building in Mouatt Street was gutted. Other portions of the two-storey building were damaged. Heat, water and smoke left their mark on doors and walls. he cause of the fire is unknown and no estimate can yet be made of the damage. It is believed that the room which was burned out was occupied by a section of the Royal Netherlands Navy. Office furniture, documents, typewriters and fittings were destroyed. «Fremantle Fremantle fire station received today. _ the alarm at 2 p.m., turned out two engines and crews. To get to the seat of the fire, the crews broke through the front door and worked a line of hose up to the second storey. The room in which the fire was confined was well alight by the tr-ie they started to fight the fire.
