REMARKABLE DROVING FEAT.

Whenever mention is made of record droving trips, someone is sure to refer to the removal of 20,000 cattle from Wave Hill Station, in the Northern Territory to Killarney Station, near Narrabri, N.S.W., in 1904. The distance was covered in 18 months, but it was not a long distance droving record, by any means. In 1900 a drover named Coleman left Clermont (Q.) with 5000 sheep. He had no fixed destination but owing to the drought at that time was ordered to find feed country which would keep the mob alive. Coleman travelled the sheep six years, and in that time covered 5000 miles and wan-dered over most of south-western Queensland. When the mob were even-tually sold, none of the ewes that had left Clermont were alive, but the drover in charge delivered to the purchaser nearly 4000 more sheep than he had when he started on the trip. The shearing and lambing took place on the journey, and the drover sold 5000 sheep on the track, besides killing over 1000 for personal use. (Mr. Coleman is now a resident of Manilla).
