KELLY GANG ECHO — P.C. FITZPATRICK DEAD

MELBOURNE, To-day.

Another of those who played a part in the drama in which members of the Kelly Gang were the chief actors has passed away in Alexander W. Fitzpatrick, whose death has oc-curred at his resident, Lydiard-street, Glenferrie, at the age of 67.

In the late seventies, when a mounted constable stationed at Glen- rowan, he went out to the Kelly home at Greta to see Ned in con-nection with a charge of cattle steal-ing. A fierce argument took place,Kelly firing a shot and wounding Fitzpatrick in the wrist. Ned im-mediately took to the bush, and was joined by his brother Dan, Joe Byrne, and Steve Hart, and they began their notorious career of bushranging. Fitzpatrick, who left the police force many years ago and then fol-lowed other pursuits, is survived by a widow and three sons.
