We note yet another advance in the value of . Westi rn Australian . public securities in the London market. On May 28, as previously reported, our four per cents, had risen in the fortnight from 104 to 105 ; the closing price on June 11 stood at 107. ? Tenderers are reminded of the notice from the City Council, now appearing, calling for offers for -.carrying out several works. At, the City Police Court the following cases were dealt with this morning : — Joseph Clayton and Louis Fischkard, charged with drunkenness, were cautioned and discharged. And Job Todd, -charged with wandering about while ; being of unSound mind ; was also discharged, but 'with being cautioned not to sin in the same manner again. Miss Marian Willis, supported by several of the most popular and talented gentlemen members of Macallum's (late) Dramatic Company, - will g.'v ; an ratertainment at the Mechanics' Hall this evening, when the interesting comedy of ' Who Killed Cock Robin' and the laughable farce of 'A Dead Shot ' will be presented— a bill of fare which, supposing the weather, be fine, should , attract a full house. On Monday evening the Company will appear in 'The Geneva Cross,' another piece quite new to most West Australians. The debate upou the proposed new Land Regulations will be brought to a close next Monday evening, when the Commissioner of Crown Lands (the Hon. J. Forrest, C.M.G.) will reply to the adverse criticisms hon. members have passed upon them. Taken as a whole the debate (considering the importance of the' subject) has been of

the most miserably poor description, lacking, as it has done, in energy, interest, and eloquence. Hon. members seem to be reserving tlieir strength until jfche draft Regulations be committed, when a perfect deluge of proposed amendments will be poured in from both side3 of the House. At the Fremanta- Police Court this morning, before Mr. Fain.' urn, Win. Lalnb, a sailor belonging to the barque Spirit of the South, was charged witi; desertion from the vessel on the 23rd Jtt .o. The captain said the accused left. the ship during the' night. Oh the prisoner being asked what he had to say in defence, he replied ' Nothing,' and ? was then sentenced to six weeks' imprisonment with hard labor.— P. Smith, also a sailor (from the Otago), was charged vith desertion on the 7th instant.' On being asked if he had anything to say, he replied that he had been badly treated by the mate. He also was sentenced to six weeks' with hard labor, and informed by the Bench that should the vessel sail before the expiration of the term he would be placed on board. He replied although he had nothing to say against the captain he would prefer being hanged to going on board the vessel again.
