WONGARBON.

Since the 30-point fall of rain a week ago, the weather has been fine, with oc-casional high winds.

In spite of the droughty conditions, the farmers are sanguine of having some wheat to sell, even if the parcel is small. This feeling is characteristic of the majority of the men on the land, and illustrates that spirit which never acknowledges defeat.

Wongarbon cricketers played a com-petition match with a Geurie team at Geurie on Sunday, and scored a 4-point win, defeating Geurie by 10 wickets, and improving their own position in the competition considerably, Wongarbon now being second with 10 points, to Elong's first with 11. The scores were as follows :— Geurie, first innings, 84 ;

Wongarbon, first innings, 3 for 158 (C.

Carters not out 104) ; Geurie, innings, 76.

Heavy colds are prevalent in the locality. In many cases the complaint takes the form of a very bad attack of influenza. A number of citizens are con-fined to their beds with the disease.

The G.W.R. (Eng.), is substituting orange for red in its distant signal lights on two of its main lines.
