Agnew Stars — At His Uni. Studies

Columbus, Ohio, Today: Second Australian swimming champion to gain scholastic recognition at US University within the last month is Perth's Garrick Agnew.

Agnew, selected as aj member of this year's Aus-i tralian Olympic Games' team, was one of 33 stu-; dents and graduates elect-: ed yesterday to the Ohio: State University chapter; of Phi Beta Kappa, oldest! and besi-known scholastic: honor society in the US. j Election of the other: Australian swimmer, John! Marshall, of Melbourne, to scholastic honor societies at Yale was announced last month. Aust. Champion Agnew, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Agnew. of Nedlands, WA, held national and State swimming titles before he left the University of WA to enrol at Ohio. He Is a member of the 1 a 1 1 e r's championship team, specialising in 220 and 440 yards events. Ohio Uni's Bureau of Public Relations, reporting Agnew's election to the1 society, said its membership represented 'the topranking liberal arts scholars in the University's college of arts and sciences.' Agnew, the Bureau said, had, except for one 'B,' an unbroken 'A' academic record since he came to Ohio Uni in Oct., 1950. New members. Including Agnew, will be Initiated into the society at a dinner next Friday night.
