Freak Rock Formation

ABYDOS STATION LANDMARK.

Mention was made in a news item appearing in a recent issue of "The West Australian" of a remarkable rock formation not far from Abydos station, Port Hedland, which has aroused considerable speculation at various times. To all outward appearances it is an artificial construction and many people suppose it to have been built by natives many years ago. Informed opinion, however, considers the formation to be natural. The landmark, which is known as London Wall, is, in appearance like a wall containing a vast number of rocks, and is about 100 feet high and 200 yards long.

Writing to the chairman of the memorials committee of the Western Australian Historical Society (Mr. P. I. Bray), Mr. Frank Leeds, of Abydos station, said that the wall was natural and not built by natives. In countless years, he said, soil had been washed towards the river, leaving a remarkable formation which attracted the interest of all who saw it.
