SOME RECORD RIVERS.

CATTLE WASHED TO SEA.

Perth, Feb. 3.

The deputy postmaster-general has

received a report from Derby in which the manager of Yeeda station advises that on the night of January 26 the Fitzroy River, which was already in flood, was augmented by a farther large body of water, causing the highest previous flood marks to be

exceeded. Near the homestead the water was six miles wide for 20 miles.

Stock in large numbers were washed away. Heavy floods were also re ported from Meda station, where the Lennard River flooded the country and washed away fencing. The re port further stated that these unusual floods were caused by the Margaret River augmenting the flooded Fitz

roy.

The rainfall was : Meeda 20 inches, Yeeda 15 inches, Derby 13 inches. Telegraphic communication beyond Fitzroy is still interrupted. The mail due at Fitzroy from Derby on Janu ary 26 has not yet reached the post office there and is not expected for about ten days.

The Commissioner of Police re

ceived a telegram from Sub-inspector

Houlahan at Broome about the record

floods in West Kimberley. He says

that hundreds of cattle have been

washed out into King's Sound. Many of them are alive but nothing can be

done to save them.

Perth, Feb. -4.

A brief telegram from Broome re ceived last night states that the floods in the northern part of the State are the most disastrous for thirty years. Particulars of the serious damage

done are not so far obtainable.
