F. I. BRAY'S APPOINTMENT

The Executive Council has approved of the appointment of Mr. Francis Illingworth Bray as Commissioner of Native Affairs in succession of Mr A. O. Neville. Mr. Bray, who has been in charge of the department as Acting Commissioner since Mr. Neville's retirement In March last; will officially assume his new office on October 21. when Mr. Neville's retir ing leave will be completed.

Born at Bunbury, Mr. Bray was educated at the former Perth Boy's School in St. George's terrace. He joined the Premier's Office in August, 1896, and for some years he was in personal attendance as a junior on the then Sir John Forrest.

From July, 1932, Mr. Bray frequently administered the Aborigines Department (now Department of Native Affairs) for short periods during Mr. Neville's absence on inspection work or leave. Since February 22, 1937, when he was appointed DeputyChief Protector of Aborigines, he has been continuously employed in the Department of Native Affairs. Later the title of his position was changed to Deputy-Commissioner of Native Affairs.
