- WAIL WEST.. H.IIarvest operations in this district are, coming to a close-rather unusual to be finished -harvesting before Christmas. Wheat earting will soon be in full swing, although there will not be as much to do as in previous years. Wheat crops yielded well, considering the season, and in most cases were far above expectations. The sample is good, thy grain being even and plump, therefore the weight should be good. Ileports have come to hand of yields of S bags per acre, but the general yield per acre is about five or six bags. Oat crops were a bit of a failure, and the yield was from two to five bags per acre. There is still a fair amount of hay in the paddocks, and the work of carting that in will be recommenced after wheat carting is over. Dams and water catchment areas are dry or nearly so, on most farmers' holdings, and there will soon be a harge quantity of stock watering at the river. The old Christmas picnic which used to be such a pleasurable outing for young and old in pre-war days, is belug revived again, and anyone who is feeling inclined will find a great deal of pleasure in coming' along to the picturesque ground known as the "erle, ket ground," near Mr. Rod Mtacdon. aid's residence. Picnickers are requested to bring along their own basket and billy, and a light heart, and these will lie the means of spending a very enjoyable Christmas in 1019,
