CHRISTMAS ON A SUNDAY. Few people are aware that Christmas Day falls on a Sunday oftener than upon some other days of the week. It falls on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday fifty-eight times, and upon Friday and Saturday fifty-seven times, for every fifty-six times that It falls on Monday or Wednesday. This will continue to be so until the present error of 22% seconds in the length of the year is compensated for by the substitution of a common year for a leap year once in every four thousand years. As Christmas on a Sunday is generally supposed to ensure a year of peace and plenty, perhaps superstitious folk might be content to let the error remain. What is it that a man on a tram-car or a 'bus loses by being polite?-His seat and his temper.
