COMPLIMENTARY HBAINQUET TO THE WINNERS OF THE SARGOOD SHIELD. On Tuesday evening last the members of the Rspanyup Rifle Club invited five of their comrades-Messrs D. Sinclair, J. H. Dyer, J. Gawith, W. Roebuck and A. W. Harman-to a banquet in recognition of their services in bringing the Sargood Shield to Rupanyup. The spread, which did honor to Host M'Wiiriams' catering, was laid out in the large roomr of the Commercial Hotel, and the attendance was representative, though not so large as it would have been had harvesting operations not been in fulls sing Among the outside guests were Contain Trew and Mr J. Mills, of the Stawell R C.; Captain Hamilton and Mr 0. Blayney, of the Murtoa R.C.; and Captain A. Selkirk and Mr G. Tulk, of the Minyip R.C The trophy, which was a massive silver shield, s itably inscribed, had the place of honor in the room, and was admired by those present. Mr H. Menzies, president of the club, occupied the chair, Mr Vice-president Geo. Wood filling the vice chair. Throughout the sitting, which lasted about three hours, the proceedings were marked with the greatest cordiality, and at the close there was but one opinion, and that was that the re-union was pleasant in itself and doubly plesnurable on account of the occasion that brought them together. The winning of a trophy of so high a character as the Sargood Shield is certainly a noteworthy fact in the history of the Wimmera. and it was rightly regarded so by the visiting gentlemen who spoke during the evening.-Standard.
