LADIES' COSTUME. The smartness of the Eton mode holds it firmly in fashion's favor, and for the early autumn, at least, its prestige will be maintained. The illustration shows a costume of this order developed in chiffon panamh with fancy braid. Shoulder.and under-arm seams, and sometimes one at the centre of the back, are used in shaping the coat, whose front edges lap with points over the bust over a fancy vest. Shaped trimming bands follow the edges of the garment, and curve upward slightly at the centre of the back. Ornamental straps with pointed ends finish the long sleeves; pleats that turn from the centre on the top adjust them into, the armholes. Six pie

ces are used in the construction of the skirt, the front being composed of two narrow sections that extend above the waist at the sides and back; a shapely girdle makes up the required' depth. The pieces are joined in slot seam effect above inverted box pleats, allowed on the gores, thereby increasing the width.at the lower edge. Provision is made for the usual inveited fulness at the back. M.
