PANAMA EXPOSITION. --------------------------------

FOOTBALLERS' PROJECT.

At the meeting of the Victorian Football Association yesterday evening a letter was received from Mr. J. Smith asking for the patronage of the association to a project to send two teams of Australian footballers to the Panama Exposition, and requesting that the president should be appointed to join the deputation, which it is proposed should wait on the commission now inquir-ing into Australian representation thereat.

Mr. Smith attended the meeting, and said that he and others had been giving the mat-ter thought for some months. They con-sidered that the visit of two teams of Aus-

tralian footballers would be a better adver-tisement than all the exhibits. One man, if he took the fit into his head, would finance the tour himself, but they wanted the Go-vernment to give some resistance.

Delegates, however, could not obtain from Mr. Smith any names of those asso-ciated with him, and it was decided to take no action till further information was sup-

plied.
