THE qO ISTMAS fPIRIT IN TOWN O utslde'shops yesterday the approach of Christmastide was heralded by the ple?tiful supply of branches of cypress .trees and the gay array of ,bunting, together with 'an ample variety of all kinds of gifts inside windows for the citstomi of goodwill offering. It was an ideal day and night for the occasion, and nearly eyeryboldy temporarily forgot. the hardships they had experienced for the twelvemonth or more. .The weather seemed symbolical of a .brighter outlook, and .iP the expressions of good .wishes by thils one and -that one there. was a fervent hope that the ushering inu of 1932 wouthl Ibe the birth of a new.and prosperous era. The' children held at special place in the thoughts and hearts of their elders, who could not let the day or night pass by -.without recognis'ng that thw period demanded a -tangible expression of 'forethought and love. In this rerpect hundreds vyesterday, and also on V Wednesdty, enjfoyed the thrill of meeting a jovial Santa Claus atl Messrs. J. Langlands & Sons' shop in[ Firebrace street. Here at the back of the crockery depirtment '"te festive I court" Wvas held. Children had more than one thrill : they climbed :up to a specially arranged chute and received a gift from tile big giver of gifts its they flnishedl their slides. It was a joyous trine for all. The spirit of i Christmas cannot hie neglected.
