NEW YORK, Sunday : Down in Memphis, Tennessee, last night a big cat-more ; precisely, a lioness
felt an urge to wander, broke but of her cage and fled into the stormdy night.
Too stormy, because lionesses-just like smaller cats-don't like to get wet.
Thoroughly, soaked
after a short spree, , she broke a glass door down to get back inside put of
the rain. Arid went meekly back to her cage.
# In Verona (Italy) another circus lioness, Sultana, wounded in a tussle with an angry tigress, has had a leg ampu
tated instead of Í being destroyed. ;
Three years ago » Sultana held off a 5 maddened tigress * which suddenly at- 5 tacked the animal ; trainer, and he " escaped with his life. .
A few days ago the ; same tigress fought " with the circus lion. Sultana joined the battle in defence of her mate and was badly slashed.
For her courage she >' will be looked after until she dies.
