Monsoon hits Queensland

BRISBANE, Monday: Monsoonal rains up to ll inches in 24 hours have cut road, air and telegraphic

communications and caused the first flooding of the wet season in North Queensland.

Brisbane Weather Bureau

today warned of flooding in Cape York Peninsula. Mr. B. W. Newman, deputy director, said tonight the tropical dépression -250 miles north-east of Bowen was stationary and quiet, but it was being watched closely because lt could turn into a cyclone. v
