500 attend Alex Gurneys funeral

More than 500 journalists,! artists and friends of Alex Gurney, attended his funeral service at St. Stephen's Church of England, Garden

vale, yesterday.

Mr. Gurney died at his home in Merton av., Elwood, on Sunday. He was 53.

The Rev. Selwyn Ide conducted the service.

In a short address he said that Alex Gurneys work was humorous, but at the same time sad:

"You often almost cried after you laghed - it was so compassionate."

Fifty-three cars followed the cortege to the Spring Vale Crematorium.
