ISADOR MERELY FLICKED

HIS ENEMIES AWAY

Two uninvited guests did their best last night to wreck the Isador Goodman show on HSV7.

They plagued and irri-tated the pianist throughout his 15-

minute show.

But not once did Good-man show on the screen that he was being harassed, non-stop-by two FLIES.

This was not unusual, be-

cause Isador Goodman al-ready has the reputation of being one of Melbourne's most nonchalant - and ef-fective - TV performers.

Last night he played such diverse numbers as the Chopin Waltz, a rhapsodised version of the hit tune, "If I Love You," and different types of boogie woogie.

His witty introductory pat-

ter to each selection gave the impression that he was thoroughly enjoying himself.

But after the cameras had switched from him he ex-ploded, "I'd have given any-thing to have had a fiyspray handy.

"I WAS NEARLY DRIVEN MAD."

The only way he got re-lief was by going through the motions of smoothing back his already meticu-lously neat hair.

And it takes a lot to ruffle the pianist Neville Cardus in 1941 described as "Australia's best."

For instance, the only pre-paration he makes before going on TV is to spend about two minutes lightly powdering his chin and cheeks and cracking his knuckles.

"Why should I worry," Darkly handsome Isador said. "All I have to do is imagine the camera is an audience, then sit down and play.

"The cameramen have the hard part."
