A vigorous attempt is being made to organise the. Charters Towers labourers and machine hands. A Trades and Labor Council is. also talked of. Why not a District Council of the Labour Federation? A 'Woodworkers' Society' has

been formed in Rockhampton to include the various branches of the furniture trade and carpenters and joiners. W. M. Wallace is secretary pro tern. In reply to his request for advice the Brisbane United Furniture Trade Society has advised the formation of two distinct societies. The Rockhampton movement results' from the visit of Messrs. Glassey, M.L.A., Hinchcliffe, and Casey. The Brisbane furniture trade was fluttered last month by a reported reduction of wages in a big establishment/ but the matter was satisfactorily settled before trouble arose. Work is comparatively brisk, which helped. ? ? ' GOOD MEN IN MARYBOROUGH » The General Labor Union of Maryborough, in putting the question of 'Federation* for the vote of its members, has adopted the wise plan of issuing to each one a leaflet pointing out the advantages_of the jstep, Good ^nen in^Maryborough! - — The Eight-Hour demonstration in Brisbane on March % was not as good as on previous years, partly owing to the rainy weather. The attendance at the ground was very large, and 'The Worker' sold like hot cakes. There were several fine displays in the procession, and an added attraction were the bakers, the shop Assistants, and the boys* brigade who marched, not as Eight-hour men, but as aspirants who hoped .some day to be so. The first Art Union prize, a £250 house, was won by Petersen, of Boggo Road, South Brisbane. The second prize, a piano, was won by Secretary Brown, of the Builders Labourers' Association, Townsville.
